For the webmaster
What you set, and what happens by itself
VEFtranslate has a single admin area. Here are the settings you find in it, with what each one changes. The previews below are illustrations: the admin area of this demo site stays private.
What happens by itself:
- The identical copy of your pages, posts, categories and menus.
- The menu of each language, item by item.
- Addresses with the language code and hreflang tags.
- The memory of your changes.

What is translated
Content types
Pages, Posts
You set
Pages and posts are copied into every language. Reusable blocks and navigation menus of the block editor are included, so headers and footers follow.
Categories and tags
Categories, Tags
You set
Each translated post uses the translation of its categories and tags.
Content
New translations and updates
Status of a new translation
Draft (recommended)
You set
A draft is not visible to visitors until you publish it, so a page is never shown half translated.
When the source changes
Update existing translations
You set
Three choices: do nothing, update existing translations, or also copy new published content. An update only touches what you did not change by hand, and runs a few seconds after you save.
Menu item without a published page
Hide it until the page is published
You set
What a translated menu does with an item whose page is not translated or published yet: hide it, or link to the page in the source language.
Switcher
Language switcher
Display
List
You set
Default for the menu entry and the floating button. The block and the Elementor widget have their own choice.
Language names
Native names
You set
Native names are written in each language, for example Deutsch. They are the easiest to recognize for a visitor.
Floating button
Show a language button in a corner of every page
You set
A small button that stays on screen, in the corner you choose. Useful when your theme has no menu to hold the switcher.
Addresses
Addresses and search engines
Source language address
Redirect the address with the source language code to the address without it
You set
The source language has no code in its addresses: /fr/page/ sends to /page/.
Language tags
Tell search engines which pages are translations of each other (hreflang)
You set
Recommended. Without these tags, search engines may show the wrong language to your visitors.
Your changes
Your changes are kept
You fix a translation by hand? No update will overwrite it. Here is what happens when the source changes.
In the source (French)
“Ouvert tous les jours.” becomes “Ouvert tous les jours, dimanche compris.”
In your translation (English)
You had already edited it: “Open every day, come and say hi!”
After the update
Your version is kept. The page is flagged so you can have a look.
On the edit screen of a translation
Reset this translation
You decide
This button rebuilds the translation from the source. Your changes are then discarded: use it when you want to start again.
