Languages and switcher

Your languages, your addresses, your switcher

You add the languages you want, in the order you want. Each one gets its own address, its own menu and its own switcher.

ES

DE

The original language of the site has no code in its addresses; the others carry one. The addresses can be translated too.

The switcher

A switcher to your taste

The same switcher, three looks. They all really work: try them.

Block · list

Names in their own language: the easiest for a visitor to recognize.

Block · drop-down

Compact: ideal in a header, like the one of this site.

Block · codes

Short and discreet: FR, EN, ES, DE.

Elsewhere than in a page: an Elementor widget, an entry at the end of a theme menu, or a floating button in a corner of every page. Divi 5: menu entry or floating button.

Menus

One menu per language, built for you

The menu of this site exists in four languages. An item that points to a page follows that page’s translation; until the translation is published, the item waits as a draft: a menu never shows a link to a missing page.

Menu item without a published page

Hide it until the page is published

You set

What a translated menu does with an item whose page is not translated or published yet: hide it, or link to the page in the source language.

Search engines

Each page tells Google which page is its translation

hreflang tags, translated addresses and the right language declared on each page: search engines show the right language to the right visitor.

Language tags

Tell search engines which pages are translations of each other (hreflang)

You set

Recommended. Without these tags, search engines may show the wrong language to your visitors.
